Where we make our syrup

We make our maple syrup on the 5.5 acres of the heavily wooded hardwood forest where we live in Southwestern Ohio just north of Bethel, Ohio, adjacent to East Fork State Park, and about a 45 minute drive east of Cincinnati. According to the OSU Maple Syrup Producers Manual, we are just on the southern edge of the North American range of maple syrup production.

In a recent survey of our forest, we had more than 300 sugar maple trees with a diameter greater than three inches. About a third of them have diameters large enough (12" or more) that can be tapped for collecting sap.
